Badr Al-Nashi
Between 2003 and 2009, Badr Al-Nashi was the secretary-general of Hadas, the Kuwaiti party linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.
Bader Al-Nashi often appears in American diplomacy correspondences, as disclosed by Wikileaks. He is carefully listened by the embassy which takes up his analyzes verbatim, notably when he states that Hadas can be a factor of moderation in the region. He claims in particular that he is able to influence the decisions of radical Sunnis in Iraq.
The brother of Bader Al-Nashi, Salem Al-Nashi, is the spokesman for the Salafi Islamic Grouping.
Another member of his family, Hamad Al-Nashi, fights against unveiled women. On 28 October 2009, the Constitutional Court rejected a claim lodged by lawyer Hamad Al-Nashi against two non-veiled deputies. The latter had demanded that they be definitively excluded from parliament for violating the Sharia. The court ruled that “individuals are not obliged to respect Islamic Shari’a regulations, in the same way as they must abide by [the State] fundamental laws, unless the legislator stipulates the contrary … The Kuwaiti Constitution does not provide that Sharia is the sole source of legislation and does not prohibit the legislator from resorting to other sources [of legislation] in the name of respecting people [needs]. Moreover, the Constitution guarantees total religious and individual freedoms and prohibits discrimination … on grounds of religion or gender “.
